Cartwheel Biography
CARTWHEEL BIOGRAPHY (28.09.2005)
Carol and David, better known in musical circles as Cartwheel, play a music that easily fits into the common genre known today as modern-day-beatsy-indietronica-skewed pop and roll. Although their music doesn’t compare to that of either Kylie Minogue or Jason Donovan, they hail from the same sunny city known as Melbourne in Australia. Cartwheel have been together since 1998, playing various gigs around Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide performing alongside noteworthy bands such as Architecture in Helsinki, Ninety nine and The Lucksmiths.
After recording and releasing independent CDRs up until 2002, Melbourne based label – Saint James Records released a lovely mint-green seven inch which received vast amounts of radio play in Australia. It featured four tracks which illustrate their dynamic sound and instrumentation; they like to mix analogue keyboards and digital sequencers with guitars, as well as switch instruments on stage to confuse the audience (and after a few, themselves).
The relocation to Manchester for the whole of 2004 started out a bit rough as they scoped out their surroundings but it ended in success. Manchester based label – Valentine Records released a 4 track EP to coincide with their European/UK/Scandinavian tour. Their claim to fame is selling out of all copies of the EP in Rough Trade, really.
September/October/November 2005 sees the Cartwheel kids organising their next tour which includes the UK/Spain/Mexico and the West Coast of USA and they hope it will be as successful as the last.
